Statistics student named Valedictorian for the 54th Congregation
Mr. Benjamin Abakah Abijah of the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science has been adjudged the Overall Best Graduating student of the College of Science during the university’s 54th Congregation (Virtual) held on Friday, September 18, 2020. He attained this feat by obtaining a Cumulated Weighted Average (CWA) of 83.17.
The College of Science presented a total of 1,730 graduands, out of which 1,071 were males and 659 were females. Delivering his valedictory speech at the virtual ceremony, Benjamin reminisced how challenging it was for students to complete their respective programs, especially amidst the pandemic. “Nonetheless, these experiences prepared us for today, which gives us a legitimate reason to celebrate and a feeling of accomplishment,” he added. He further charged the graduands not go into the world as critics, neither to live ordinary lives nor join the pool of unemployed graduates who do nothing but rant about the hardships of life and the problems of society.
Mr. Abijah was awarded First Class Honors in BSc Statistics, and he is currently doing his national service with the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science as a Teaching Assistant
